Bobath Therapy

Bobath-Concept

This therapy concept addresses children, adolescents and adults with disorders, present at birth or acquired, of the central nervous system as well as sensomotoric salience, cognitive impairment and other neurological diseases.

The Bobath concept aims at relearning movements, causing the brain to rediscover deactivated body areas or motion sequences that are lost or unknown. Step by step, paralysed parts of the body can be reactivated via stimulation and further support. The brain starts to reorganise while healthy brain parts take control.

What patients learn to train is the interplay of the sensory organs and the muscles. Targeted outer stimuli help the patient to relearn natural posture and movement patterns. Thereby the therapist always includes the sick body area in the exercises. Finally, it is constant repetition of the exercises that strenghtens the connections of the new nervous pathways inside the brain.
